Arsenal have been linked with a move for versatile Uruguay defender Martin Caceres as Arsene Wenger seeks to remodel his defence.

The Gunners are struggling to tie up a new contract for William Gallas, while there are doubts about the ageing Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre.

Wenger is also braced for a raid by Inter Milan for his right-back Bacary Sagna, who is seen as a potential replacement for San Siro star Maicon.

Old Lady: Martin Caceres impressed during his loan spell at Turin

Barcelona defender Caceres impressed at the start of his year-longloan at Juventus this season, but the Turin side are reluctant to paythe £10million asking price as they concentrate funds on ambitious bidsfor Liverpool duo Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano.

Wanted man: Both Barca and Inter are keen on Sagna

Caceres fits the bill of being a defender who is good on the ball, impressing at centre half or at full back for club and country.

But injury proneness saw him struggle at Barca last season afterjoining from Villarreal, and an abdominal strain has restricted him tojust 10 starts in this campaign.

Sagna, who has also attracted Barcelona's attention, is on JoseMourinho's radar amid growing reports in Italy that Maicon will leaveInter this summer.

The Brazil international insists he is happy where he is, but it isclaimed that the 28-year-old has angered his employers by turning uplate for training.

Real Madrid and Manchester City are both keen on the attacking fullback, who keeps Barcelona star Dani Alves out of the Brazil team.
