Arsenal's William Gallas looks likely to miss the World Cup after France boss Raymond Domenech cut his squad from 30 to 24, with one more defender to be ditched by June 1.
Gallas missed the end of the Premier League season with a calf injury but was named in Domenech's provisional squad last week.
However, having ditched goalkeeper Mickael Landreau, defenders Adil Rami and Rod Fanni, midfielders Hatem Ben Arfa and Yann M'Vila, and striker Jimmy Briand, the France manager will have to shed one more player - with Gallas favourite to go as his recovery is taking longer than expected at the national team's training camp.
