The midfielder who is to be found in the heart of the Dortmund midfield has long been a target for the Gunners and reports suggest that a bid in the order of £15.6milion is of interest to the Bundesliga club.

The 24-year-old playmaker is best know for his passing game which would suite the style of play of Arsenal and the reports suggest a meeting will be scheduled to discuss a deal. The Metro state that Arsenal are ‘determined’ to get the deal done.

The rumour which seems to originate from fichajes.net seems to suggest a January deal could be on the cards. Gundogan is a very fine player that whilst not being able to directly fill those defensive boots that has been highlighted as a weakness in the first half of the season but would be a fine addition both in skill in physicality.

The player still has 18 months remaining on his contract and it would be easy to see that Gundogan might want to move on with his club struggling at the foot of the table. Ilkay is just returning from a long term injury that has sidelined him since last season. It could take him a while for him to return to his best with a level of consistency but perhaps Wenger feels he is worth the risk if the rumour proves to be serious.

Gundogan joined Borussia Dortmund in 2011 from Nurnberg where he has made a total of 96 appearances and scored 11 goals.
