Arsenal close in on Cabaye capture

Arsenal have been interested in the former Newcastle man for quite some time with the central midfielder being the subject of a Gunners bid which Pardew at the time rejected.

Wenger looks to be back again with the player out of favour at PSG and playing off the bench for the Ligue 1 champions. Central midfield hardly looks to be a problem area for Arsenal who have luxuries in that area but they appear to have one eye on the future as they look to ensure there are plenty of options, especially with the likes of Diaby and Arteta having unresolved futures at the Emirates.

Cabaye left Newcastle for PSG for £19million but has struggled to assert himself enough to be a starter in Laurent Blanc’s plans. Arsenal originally bid £10million for the 29-year-old player and are unlikely to want to pay much more than their original offer for a player that may be past his physical peak.

The Frenchman wants to play more first-team football and will find a Champions League team appealing. The player intends to talk about his future at the end of the season according to reports.

Cabaye has made 19 Ligue 1 appearances, nine of which have been from the bench.
