Arsenal and Hull charged over ugly clash at Emirates

The ugly flashpoint arose shortly before half-time after Samir Nasri trod on Richard Garcia, prompting an angry response from the Hull players, notably Stephen Hunt and Nick Barmby. A 21-man fracas ensued and, although many of the players were trying to restore calm, there was clearly plenty of lingering bad feeling.[LNB]Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia later described some of the Hull players as 'very nasty' and, following the FA Cup tie last season, it is the second successive time that a match between Arsenal and Hull has been overshadowed by controversy. No individual charges were brought against anyone from either team for Saturday's incident and both clubs now have until Jan 13 to respond to the charge. If proven, a charge of failing to control your players is generally punished by a fine.[LNB]Wenger, meanwhile, has described the past four years at Arsenal as the best in his entire reign at the club, even though they have not won a trophy in that time.[LNB]During his 13 years in charge, Wenger has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and taken his side to within 14 minutes of winning the Champions League, but argues that his greatest long-term achievement is maintaining Arsenal at the top of the European game while moving from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium.[LNB]"I think moving into a new stadium and keeping the team at the top in the last four years is, for me, my best period at my club,' said Wenger.[LNB]"To move into a new stadium and yet still make some money in every single year without the team dropping the level, then maintaining a successful period in the Champions League, and doing reasonably well in the league has been quite difficult.[LNB]'It has been the most difficult period but as well for me the period where I worked the best. People forget that the players are 22 years-old average, what they do at that age is remarkable.'[LNB]
