Arsenal 2 Hull City 0: Player Ratings

05 December 2013 09:35
Arsenal cruised to their third straight Premier League match thanks to a second minute goal from Niklas Bendtner, which put them in an early lead which they comfortably held for the remainder of the game.

Perhaps the early goal knocked the stuffing out of Hull or perhaps they just are not very good, but they were unable to place the Gunners under any kind of pressure.

Their best moment of the game came from a Huddlestone cross, which found nobody. The only tense moments for Arsenal came from self inflicted errors, sloppy passes from Koscielny and Szczesny, which were mopped up fairly quickly.

Arsenal were unable to double their lead in the first half, but finally did the job two minutes into the second half when Ozil eased the ball into the corner.

The Gunners threatened to add a third, but sloppy passing and finishing, prevented them from adding to their tally. The score flattered Hull, who offered no threat and were lucky to not concede more goals.

Player Ratings:

Szczesny 6.  Nothing to do, but he will be pleased he keeps another clean sheet. Sloppy clearance almost gifted Hull a good chance. He needs to purge those errors from his game.

Jenkinson 6.  Useful game from Carl, who assisted on the opening goal with a lovely cross. One can still sense a lack of confidence in Carl who still needs to work on kicking with his left foot.

Monreal 7.  A decent game from Nacho, who was tidy on defence and attacked quite a bit.

Mertesacker 6.  Easy game for Per with little to do.

Koscielny  6.  Like Mertesacker he had little to do. Made a giveaway from the corner which could have given Hull a way back into the game.

Flamini 8.  Dominated the midfield. He broke up countless Hull moves and kept the ball moving upfield.

Rosicky 7.  Another good game for Tomas. He combines well with others and is always looking for openings.

Ramsey 8.  Took a number of shots, but didn’t score today. He did assist on Ozil’s goal and had a usual great game. Made some good defensive plays as well.

Cazorla  7.  Santi’s best game in awhile. He was buzzing around and generally looking dangerous. Needs to find more space to get off his shots.

Ozil  8.  My man of the match. Like Cazorla, he was buzzing around on the pitch and he always looked dangerous. Scored a lovely goal to seal the victory.

Bendtner  7.  A good game for Niklas. He scored his first goal of the season and a better first touch would have allowed him to score a second in the first half. He fitted in well with those around him and will be happy at how he played.

Substitutes:

Walcott  6.  Was involved in a couple of moves, but generally the game was over and passes to him tended to be overhit.

Wilshere  6.  Jack immediately came on and kept pushing the ball forward and looking for a third.

Arteta  n/a.  Mikel came in late and made the game safe.
