Almunia wants more signings
10 Jul 2009 - 10:43:37
Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is concerned that Arsene Wenger's current squad is too inexperienced.
The Gunners have bought only Thomas Vermaelen from Ajax so far this summer and Almunia remains worried that the likes of experienced trio Gilberto Silva, Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini, who were all sold last year, have not been adequately replaced.
"It's great to have a young team but youth doesn't give you titles," he told Champions Magazine.
"To go a step further players need to demand more of themselves, be more professional, braver in big games.
"We need the manager to work harder to get what we need, the club to make an extra effort to make us more competitive. We need more than youth."
Meanwhile, Stan Kroenke has purchased a further 160 shares in the Gunners to take his total holding in the Premier League club to 28.58 per cent.
The American businessman accepted an invitation to join the north London club's board last year and is currently the largest shareholder.
