Almunia bites back

Arsenal's Spanish goalkeeper Manuel Almunia has hit back at comments made about him by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

The Blues chief had said about the Gunners' self-inflicted keeper crisis: "(Jens) Lehmann is one of the best in Germany. Almunia, they bought him for some reason.

"I am not impressed, but I don't have to be impressed. I like my goalkeepers very much and that's what matters for me."

However, Almunia told AS: "It is normal that, in the present situation with Chelsea top of the standings, Mourinho speaks and speaks about it.

"I do not know him personally but he gives me the impression of being an arrogant uncle and I do not like that.

"Yes, it could be worse for him because if we win on Sunday we will make him swallow his words."

Of his chances of staying in the starting eleven, Almunia added: "I do not know what he (Arsene Wenger) will decide.

"What I do know clearly is that I am happy with the opportunity he has given me. Not everybody has the opportunity to play for Arsenal.

"I know that I can play at this level and I want to continue demonstrating that."
