    Adebayor: United wanted me

    02 Nov 2007 - 09:37:43

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor claims he turned down an approach from Manchester United, but has no regrets about deciding to stick with the Gunners.

The Togo striker has revealed the Red Devils tabled a bid for him during the summer, but after holding talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, he opted to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Adebayor is expected to start up front for the Gunners in Saturday's Premier League showdown with United which is destined to shape the outcome of this year's title race.

"When I got that approach from United, I was like 'okay, it's a good team, one of the biggest teams in the world why not?'" he told The Sun.

"It was very flattering for me and gave me confidence that I am a good footballer because, if a team like Manchester want to get me, it proves I'm doing things right.

"But don't forget I am already at a massive club and we have a fantastic team.

"I had a good discussion with the boss Arsene Wenger, we finally sorted everything out and I was very happy.

"The boss gave me confidence and the guarantee I will play."

Meanwhile, Adebayor hopes to repeat his goalscoring display against United from 12 months ago.

The 23-year-old scored the winner in a 1-0 success for Arsenal at Old Trafford last September and is keen to find the net again on Saturday.

"I don't know if what prompted United's interest was my winner at Old Trafford. But I hope to do that again on Saturday," he continued.

"I did the right thing in signing a new deal with Arsenal - a four-year contract.

"I am just like a baby boy who was born in this club. It's a family team, everyone loves me - and the fans, the players, the boss - we are all like brothers."
