Finally, some good news for West Ham fans. The Hammers' famous academy, which nurtured the likes of Joe Cole and Frank Lampard, is alive and well. Gianfranco Zola fielded six home-grown players against Liverpool at the weekend - two more than any other Barclays Premier League team. West Ham may have lost 3-0, but the club has captured the market for identifying future stars in London - no other side from the capital fielded more than one former academy player. The north-west is the other hotbed of home-grown talent.
