Aaron Ramsey pips Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney to PFA award
Barclays Premier League: PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for September
We can reveal that the Welsh international, currently in the form of his life, is the worthy winner of the PFA Fans’ Player of the month award for September.
Ramsey has set both the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League alight this season, contributing an impressive eight goals in just 11 appearances in both competitions.
He has also been on target for his country this season and few would deny him his time in the spotlight after the horrific injury which could have ended his career.
No-one is more grateful to see Ramsey at the peak of his powers than Arsene Wenger, and the Arsenal manager says:”He has been outstanding and his form is linked to confidence.
"For a while, he was getting into the box and not scoring and now every time he is in a good position he scores. Goals can come in cycles. At the moment they are coming for him.
"I always thought he would score goals if he improved his technical quality because you always saw him in good positions in the box."
Ramsey agrees with his manager’s assessment and adds: “I'm happy with the way I'm playing. I'm getting into positions and I'm putting them away at the moment. I have got into these positions before, but I haven't had the composure.”
Also in the hunt for our September award was in-form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, who has continued to add to his impressive goal record which currently stands at 19 in just 22 Liverpool starts.
And, with Sturrridge now back in tandem with Luis Suarez, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers predicts that the England striker will get even better and make an even bigger impact for club AND country.
"If Daniel maintains the form he is in, he's going to be a real asset for England,” said Rodgers. "If you look at him and [Wayne] Rooney as a combination, that would be brilliant for England.
“You have him and his cleverness, and Rooney in behind him with his movement between spaces and his exceptional quality. He's 24, scoring goals and playing well, and that bodes well for him."
As for the partnership with Suarez, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson says: “I think Luis and Daniel can get even better. In training you can see the link-up play - they know instinctively where the other is going. I think that partnership and their goals can be a massive factor for us.”
With England preparing for a World Cup double-header, Sturridge will this week be looking to further develop his on-field relationship with Manchester United ace Rooney who also polled plenty of votes after an uncertain start to the season.
New United boss David Moyes is full of praise for the way Rooney has once again stepped up to the plate and write his name in club history by joining the exclusive 200 club.
"He's played really well and we want him to maintain that. If anything I'm asking him to step up again. I want him to keep getting better,” said Moyes who is delighted that speculation about Rooney’s future has finally gone away.
