A big summer ahead for Arsenal

Arsenal’s Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis met with Arsenal fans this week in a Q&A session which was largely timid in comparison to the last rocky ride given to the CEO by Arsenal fans during the middle of last season.

Ivan fielded questions that were pre-planned and to be fair to him he also took unscripted questions. One of the stand-out things from an Arsenal fans perspective was that the head honcho at Arsenal predicts a big summer for the Gunners, even if the spending is done on a cautious basis.

His faith in Arsene Wenger is unrelenting and although many fans criticised the Arsenal boss and board openly in recent times there is a growing admiration of how Arsene managed to guide Arsenal to 4th spot in the Premier League when it looked odds-on that it would not happen.

When I last wrote about Arsenal’s mission to compete for the big trophy a number of players had been linked with Arsenal and a couple of weeks on not a single big name has been signed. With Mourinho now in place at Chelsea and Moyes already active in the transfer market Arsenal’s ability to attract top names will not be an easy task. Arsenal fans will be heartened though by Ivan’s claim that they are now matching Bayern Munich in terms of financial clout.

Cesc Fabregas has very recently hinted that he would rather stay and fight for his place at Barca and this news is sure to disappoint both Arsenal and Manchester Utd fans. The season ahead promises to be even more spectacular than last and Gazidis reputation will be on the line like never before.
