9 things we expect from Thierry Henry's Sky punditry debut

17 January 2015 08:53

Thierry Henry makes his Sky Sports punditry debut on Sunday, and after the success of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher in recent seasons, a lot is expected of him.

Henry is one of the most iconic players of the Premier League era. We’re all hoping he’s able to bring his distinctive style into punditry, and if his performance for the BBC during the World Cup is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.

Here’s what we can expect from Henry for the rest of the season.

1. A lot of mocking. A lot of very graceful mocking.

Henry was never one to rub it in your face – unless you were a Spurs fan – because he knew how good he was and he also knew everybody else did too.

We can expect a lot of back-and-forth between Neville, Carragher, Henry and Jamie Redknapp, and it should help make Sundays even better.

2. Subtlety.

We trust that Henry will be able to get his points across in a way more subtle than the above. We may also see him advising Arsenal players during interviews…

3. Patience.

We all know how much Henry loves Arsenal, but he’s going to need a lot of patience watching them in the Sky Sports studio with a Liverpool fan and a Man United fan.

As proven in that clip, Henry has what it takes not to lose his cool while Carragher and Neville take apart Per Mertesacker’s performances.

We’d also like to find out whether it was Nicolas Bendtner’s fault, maybe we can get Ed Chamberlain to ask him?

4. But not always patience.

He didn’t swear at the guy, which we felt like doing – and we weren’t even the ones being insulted.

5. Humility.

Henry has never been one to shy away from responsibility. He can also do it with a bit of humour.

6. Professionalism.

Whether he’s answering his phone or a journalist’s phone is a bit unclear, but we do know we want to see more of it.

7. Quality put-downs.

Sadly we won’t see Henry putting down Robbie Savage like that again, but there are more than enough candidates on Sky for him to do it to.

We think Carragher and Neville need to mind what they say around him…

8. Passion.

In between those long groaning noises he makes when thinking of what to say, we’re sure to see Henry stating his opinions with passion, and sticking to them.

Need more proof?

9. And, above all, class.

Because the man just oozes it.
