In what could prove to be a tremendous loss for Argentina and the Albaceleste fans , Angel Di Maria’s world cup could come to a premature end after the player sustained an injury against Belgium.

The Real Madrid star’s agent has claimed his client will miss the remainder of the World Cup after he sustained a thigh injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of Belgium.

The Real Madrid wide man was taken off just after 33 minutes of the quarter-final in Brasilia.

Di Maria’s agent Eugenio Lopez, who works alongside Jorge Mendes, revealed to Goal Argentina that the winger could be suffering from a case of torn thigh muscle and may not be able to take part in the rest of the world cup.

Argentina will face Netherlands in Sao Paulo on Wednesday for the semi-finals, with the final due to take place in Rio next Sunday..

Di Maria (26), is yet to replicate the red-hot form he showed for Real Madrid this season, but remains a very crucial player for the Argentine.

Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella admitted that Di Maria’s injury could add to Argentina’s woes.

“Di Maria's injury could be costly for us. Angel has a problem with his thigh and will undergo tests tomorrow," he explained.
