50 players to watch at the World Cup - No 16 Sergio Aguero

20 May 2010 08:24
We continue our countdown to the World Cup with a look at Argentina's highly-rated young gun Sergio Aguero.

Name: Sergio Aguero

Age: 21 (22 on June 2)

Club: Atletico Madrid

International caps: 21

International goals: 7

Aguero started his career with Independiente in Argentina, where he score 23 goals in 54 appearances and attracted the attention of some of the world's biggest clubs.

It was Atletico who got him, paying a reported 23 million euros in 2006 - breaking the club transfer record in the process.

Aguero has made a sizeable return on that investment, contributing over 50 goals since becoming a first-team regular in the 2007/08 campaign. His partnership with Diego Forlan has flourished and the pair both played a key role in leading Atletico to Europa League triumph against Fulham this season.

He made his international debut in 2006 and featured in Argentina's Olympic-gold winning team at the Beijing Games.

The 2007 FIFA Young Player of the Year is set to be one of the stars of World Cup 2010, in an Argentina team that also includes Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez.
