Too gung-ho, not sufficiently ruthless?

strengths and weaknesses

Was it a boring season?   Looking back at our position in the league this past season we spent 6 weeks in 1st place, 2 weeks in 3rd then, or three quarters of the season - always in second place.  Can't recall the number of opportunities we had to regain that top spot. See http://www.arbroath-mad.co.uk/position_graph/2011_2012/arbroath/index.shtml

Other stats help analyse where we fell short.  On the plus side, we had the longest unbeaten sequence of games - 12 - in the league and obviously most goals for 76 (2.11 per game).  We failed to score only on 6 occasions (beating Cowden 7, but behind Airdrie 5)

But we also managed the most draws (12) and remakrably few clean sheets (6 compared with 16 for Cowden, 10 for Airdrie and E Fife) - even Albion managed 5  and Stirling 4.  http://soccernet.espn.go.com/stats/_/league/sco.3/scottish-division-two?cc=5739

It just confirms what we saw on the pitch - we were entertaining and progressive but paid for this with both sustained defensive frailties and also failure to break down the opposition on too many occasions.  in short, we were insufficiently hard-edged and ruthless, especially in tight games
