Arbroath’s new signing Steven Milne says joining on at Gayfield for the new campaign was an easy decision for him to make.

The 33-year-old pledged his services to the club after leaving Dundee, where he spent two seasons on a second spell.

And despite having offers from several other clubs, the striker explained he knew what was the right move for him.

He told HeraldSport: “I know Peanut [Paul Sheerin] quite well from playing at St Johnstone together and we have always kept in touch.

“He was aware that I was to be leaving Dundee and then he made the move and basically I made the decision that I wanted to sign.

“I already know some of the players and know how much of a good club it is plus I live locally so in the end it was an easy decision to make.”

And one thing Milne is hoping to bring to the club is goals. He added: “Obviously I’m hoping to score plenty of goals and bring experience to the team.

“The manager has already said he wants more goals next season so I hope I can help out with that.

“We have got to aim high next season, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t but it will be a really tough league.

“There will be Rangers and Dunfermline and clubs like Forfar, Brechin, Ayr United and Airdrie which are all good clubs.

“But I think it will be a good league and we just can’t wait to get started now.”

There has been no news on the signing front this week from Gayfield as manager Paul Sheerin tries to search for a right-back to fill the gap left by Mark Baxter.

The manager admitted he had hoped to sign former Livingston player Liam Fox, but instead he opted to return to full-time football with Raith Rovers.

But Mr Sheerin says he still has other offers on the table for players.
