We've never spoken about the title from the P&J:  Caution from Gayfield player-manager as Lichties open up six-point lead by sinking Berwick Sheerin playing it down in Arbroath title push Arbroath player-manager Paul Sheerin insists there is still a long way to go before his side can start thinking about the Third Division title – despite going six points clear at the top with this win. An opener by Keith Gibson put the Red Lichties in front and a second by Steven Doris in the second half meant they doubled their lead.    An own goal by Arbroath goalkeeper Darren Hill wasn’t enough for Berwick to take anything from the game. Sheerin said: “The six points is a cushion which is nice to have but there is still a long way to go this season.   “I’m sure there are going to be more twists and turns and our position will make teams desperate to beat us. “There does seem to be a certain buzz about the club and the town and we definitely have an opportunity to win the league. But that is all it is, an opportunity.  “I’m absolutely delighted with the result and other results have gone our way so it has been ideal.” Josh Falkingham and Kieran McAnespie had early chances to put Arbroath in front but 21 minutes had elapsed before the opener arrived.   A Sheerin corner caused trouble in the Berwick penalty area and Gibson headed the ball over the line.   The Borderers rarely challenged the Arbroath defence with a Chris McLeod header the only opportunity they had to level.   After the break, Arbroath doubled their lead through another set-piece. This time a Gavin Swankie corner connected with Doris who sent a powerful header past Berwick goalkeeper Mark Peat to net his 14th goal of the season.  The visitors did pull a goal back right at the death when the Arbroath defence failed to deal with a Darren Gribben corner and goalkeeper Hill bundled the ball in his own net. But it wasn’t enough for Berwick and the Lichties recorded their fourth home win in a row in an impressive title push. from the Sunday Mail PAUL SHEERIN watched his side open up a sixpoint gap at the top - then insisted they aren't dreaming of title glory. Keith Gibson and Steven Doris opened up a two-goal lead for Arbroath and despite a late own goal by Arbroath keeper Darren Hill the Gayfield side were always in command. But player-boss Sheerin said: "We've never spoken about the title. We are just focused on our job." Berwick boss Jimmy Crease said: "I'm so disappointed."
