But that is all it is, an opportunity. “I’m absolutely delighted with the result and other results have gone our way so it has been ideal.” Josh Falkingham and Kieran McAnespie had early chances to put Arbroath in front but 21 minutes had elapsed before the opener arrived. A Sheerin corner caused trouble in the Berwick penalty area and Gibson headed the ball over the line. The Borderers rarely challenged the Arbroath defence with a Chris McLeod header the only opportunity they had to level. After the break, Arbroath doubled their lead through another set-piece. This time a Gavin Swankie corner connected with Doris who sent a powerful header past Berwick goalkeeper Mark Peat to net his 14th goal of the season. The visitors did pull a goal back right at the death when the Arbroath defence failed to deal with a Darren Gribben corner and goalkeeper Hill bundled the ball in his own net.
