Queens Park 1-1 Arbroath: Report

12 February 2011 18:44
Spiders salvage draw Martin McBride scored from the spot as Queens Park held league leaders Arbroath to a 1-1 draw at Hampden Park. The away side took the lead just three minutes in as Stuart Malcolm rose above the Spiders' defence to head home from six yards out. Queens Park threatened to hit back moments later with efforts from Ian Watt and Daryll Meggatt sailing wide of the Arbroath goal. But their persistence paid off as the first half came to a close, with goalscorer Stuart Malcolm fouling David Murray in the area for McBride to slot home an equaliser. Gardner Speirs's side continued to press and Jamie Longworth came closest to scoring a winner, hitting the bar with a superb 20-yard volley with six minutes remaining. The result keeps Arbroath top of the Scottish Third Division table, two points clear of Albion Rovers.
