Hill - we will be a half-decent side

Hill said: “It is all positive at the club. We want to play to football in the right manner and it is just getting in players who will do that. We feel it will be a half-decent side and it is the way forward. “We have just came from the Second Division so we want to be winning and go straight back up.” Hill is usually one of the more dependable members of the Gayfield squad (who made a series of great saves before the blunder) but admitted a blunder which allowed Dunfermline to progress in the League Cup just as the Angus club looked set for a major cup shock. He added: “Dunfermline being a full-time side has a major impact on the game. We have day jobs so it is going to be a massive difference. We held our own for 70 minutes and we have to be optimistic for the season.” Arbroath started the match with vigour and unexpectedly took the lead after 12 minutes with their player-manager Sheerin popping up to head home a Gavin Swankie corner. The Pars equalised immediately through Andy Kirk then the game stagnated into a stalemate before Hill dropped a clanger in the 73rd minute. Kirk tried a shot from outside the box which the goalkeeper parried, but the ball ran free to Paul Willis who notched his first senior goal by slipping the ball under Hill from a tight angle. The Pars had a spring in their step and extended their lead through Kirk and Steven McDougall before Swankie grabbed a consolation with a 20-yard shot. Arbroath were out in their feet when Joe Cardle added a fifth in injury time for a scoreline which flattered the Fifers.
