Gemmell's makes us pay again

Another mediocre showing away, on plastic
Back to earth with a bang
After last week's brighter showing, it was back down to earth with a bang on a cold afternoon in the wastelands of central Scotland,
We laboured all afternoon to get any foothold on this game, struggling once again on plastic. Stenny looked sharper and quicker throughout, especially upfront. By contrast we got no change from their well-organised back four - never seen Doris so ineffectual while Bayne fed on scraps
The showing of Euan Smith, who showed plenty of confidence with the ball was one of the few positives from this game.
Our dire away form continues. And there's a tricky encounter at Cliftonhill - a different kind of difficult surface coming up fast.
From the Sunday MailMARTYN CORRIGAN hailed a moment of magic from John Gemmell after the Stenny star hit the only goal to dump Arbroath. Gemmell blasted home a stunning first-half volley from 18 yards to keep his side in touch at the top. Warriors boss Corrigan said: “Big John’s strike was worthy of winning any game – a real cracker. “We had missed a few chances and they kicked a couple off the line which can make you think it’s not going to be your day. But John has it in his locker to do something special and it got us over the line.” Darren Smith had a great chance to fire the home team into an early lead but Scott Morrison raced from his line to block. Gemmell bagged the winner seconds before the break, chesting down a David Rowson delivery to smash past Morrison from the edge of the box. Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin said: “We lost out to a touch of genius today but are still handily placed for the play-offs.”
