Whatley out for Red Lichties

Arbroath will be without Mark Whatley against Elgin at Gayfield as the midfielder is suffering with a knee injury

Fellow midfielder Kieran McWalter is also absent as a result of a hamstring problem but manager Todd Lumsden's options have increased with the inclusions of Gary Phillips and Michael Jones as trialists.

Lumsden said: "We lost 4-2 to Hearts in our Scottish League Cup tie but I was pleased with the performance as we made good use of the ball and kept good possession.

"We will need a similar level of performance against an Elgin side who are really strong in attack with Mark McKenzie, Craig Gunn and Brian Cameron all capable of upsetting any team."

Elgin head to Gayfield boosted by the additions of two players.

St Johnstone goalkeeper Mark Hurst and Ross County striker Kyle McLeod were not being allowed to play in their Scottish League Cup tie at Morton by their parent clubs.

Darryl McHardy and Jamie Duff are also injury doubts with manager Jim Weir saying: "If Arbroath play against us like they did against Hearts then we need to be at the top of our game for the 90 minutes.

"We did well against Morton last weekend but a crazy 15-minute spell cost us and we lost 5-0. We cannot afford another spell like that in this game if we are to pick up the three points."
