Gormley treble stuns champions David Gormley registered a hat-trick as Elgin secured a 5-3 victory over champions Arbroath. The home side opened the scoring when Paul Sheerin slotted home Adam Strachan's cross in the 28th minute. Elgin equalised 10 minutes later with Gormley smashing high into the net from inside the area before he put his side ahead on the stroke of half-time, guiding the ball home from the edge of the area from Brian Cameron's pass. Gavin Swankie equalised for Arbroath five minutes into the second half, unleashing a 30-yard volley to send the home fans into raptures. Craig Gunn replied, however, in the 55th minute as he powered a shot past goalkeeper Darren Hill from 25 yards. Gormley claimed his hat-trick when he turned in Craig Frizzel's header across goal on the 62nd minute before Josh Falkingham pulled one back for Arbroath when Swankie picked him out in the area 10 minutes later. Nevertheless, Jason Crooks completed the scoring from the spot with 11 minutes remaining after Paul Kaczan was brought down in the box by Stuart Malcolm.
