Arbroath survive Annan rally

Arbroath maintained their three-point lead at the top of the table but were made to sweat in a 3-2 win against Annan.

Two goals in three second-half minutes from Jack Smith and Dylan Carreiro added to Robert Linn's opener and appeared to make the game safe but the visitors rallied late on.

Linn opened the scoring in the 15th minute when his cross-cum-shot sailed straight over Alex Mitchell.

Eleven minutes into the second half Smith took advantage of Steven Black's misjudgement of a long ball to slot home.

Then Carreiro cut inside from the left byline and curled into the far corner, but there was late drama to come.

Ryan McStay's 79th-minute free-kick went straight through the wall and past Marc McCallum, then Scott Davidson pulled another back with three minutes left, collecting Josh Todd's through ball and lashing home.

An heroic comeback proved just beyond the visitors though.
