Smokies clinch valuable home victory over Stirling

Arbroath improved on their slow start in Ladbrokes League Two with a morale-boosting 2-0 home win over Stirling.

After an even first half with no goals, the damage was done soon after the interval.

Sergio Cecilia opened the scoring, taking a Bobby Linn ball and unleashing a shot from outside the box that beat a sprawling Chris Smith all ends up.

Linn added a second himself after Andy Ryan made a buccaneering run down the left and crossed for the midfielder to turn home.

The two-goal cushion allowed Todd Lumsden's men, with just one win in their first six, to shut up shop and see out the victory.

The result left both sides locked together on seven points.
