Arbroath climb to Scottish League Two summit after beating Elgin

Arbroath went top of Scottish League Two with a 3-2 win over Elgin.

Ryan McCord grabbed a hat-trick for Arbroath, while Jamie Reid endured an eventful afternoon for the visitors.

Reid had cancelled out McCord's opener, only to get booked celebrating and pick up a second yellow seven minutes later.

Jassem Sukar headed a late own goal to set up a tense finish.

Arbroath hit the front because Forfar were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Cowdenbeath.

Robbie Buchanan's finish into the top corner put Cowdenbeath ahead but Shaun Rutherford saw red after 54 minutes for violent conduct.

Danny Denholm's low effort levelled the contest, but Forfar failed to find a winner in the last 20 minutes despite their numerical advantage.

The point keeps alive Cowdenbeath's chances of avoiding the drop, after relegation rivals Clyde and Berwick played out a 1-1 draw.

David Gormley's penalty put Clyde ahead, but Johnny Fairbairn equalised 10 minutes into the second half.

Annan Athletic thrashed Montrose 5-1 in the race for play-off places.

Rabin Omar, Barry Cuddihy, Steven Swinglehurst and Raffi Krissian put Annan four up inside 18 minutes and any hopes of a comeback were ended by Iain Campbell's 33rd-minute dismissal.

Peter Weatherson grabbed a fifth before Kerr Hay nabbed a late consolation.

Derek Riordan's last-minute winner handed Edinburgh City a 1-0 victory over Stirling Albion.
