Galabankies miss chance to go top

Annan missed the chance to celebrate Christmas Day at the top of the Third Division table after being held to a 2-2 draw by Berwick at Galabank.

With leaders Stranraer not due to play until Boxing Day, goals from Peter Watson and Ian Harty looked to have set up the victory required to leapfrog the Blues into top spot.

However, Scott Gibson's own-goal set up a tense finale and substitute Darren Gribben snatched a late equaliser before both sides had a man sent off.

David Cox's corner found Watson who nodded home in the 18th minute, before Harty latched on to Sean O'Connor's pass to beat Jamie Barclay low to his right four minutes before the break.

Gibson managed to slice through his own net with 13 minutes remaining before Gribben seized on Richard Walker's rebound to finish with aplomb from the edge of the area nine minutes from time.

In a fractious end to proceedings, Annan's Michael McGowan saw red for foul and abusive language with Steven Notman dismissed for the visitors for a second bookable offence.
