Annan ease past Peterhead

Annan maintained their lead at the top of the Scottish Third Division with a comfortable 2-0 victory at home to lowly Peterhead.

Two early goals in as many minutes from Aaron Muirhead and Jack Steele, the first of which came from the penalty spot, means Annan remain three points clear of second-placed Alloa, who triumphed 1-0 away to Clyde.

The hosts scored after 10 minutes when Callum MacDonald fouled Peter Watson in the penalty area following David Cox`s corner, Muirhead stroked home the resulting spot-kick into the bottom corner.

And it was quickly 2-0 as Steele latched on to John MacBeth`s right-wing cross to fire home from close range.

Graeme Bell hit a post from 20 yards later in the first half as Annan went on to extend their unbeaten home record this season and leave Peterhead still with just one victory to their name.
