Stunning comeback keeps Alloa up

Daryll Meggatt was the hero as Alloa overcame a two-goal first-leg deficit and a one-man disadvantage to beat Forfar 3-0 and preserve their Scottish Championship status.

The Wasps lost 3-1 in the away leg of the play-off final but goals from Michael Chopra and Liam Buchanan got them level before Meggatt struck late on to complete a stunning turnaround.

The aggregate victory was all the more remarkable given substitute Graeme Holmes was sent off with 17 minutes remaining.

Forfar, who finished third in League One before beating second-placed Stranraer in the semi-finals, looked on course for promotion with the sides goalless in first-half stoppage time.

But Chopra sent Alloa into the break in high spirits after he turned and finished Mark Docherty's low cut-back into the bottom corner.

And the Wasps were level on aggregate in the 67th minute when Buchanan drilled the ball into an empty net after Chopra had taken advantage of confusion between Robert Douglas and Darren Dods.

Alloa's hopes of staying in the Championship were hit as Holmes was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Omar Kader.

But the hosts defied the odds by scoring a tie-winning third six minutes from time through Meggatt's header from Docherty's corner.
