Frustration for Davies

Aldershot's goal-scoring midfielder Scott Davies has revealed his frustration at receiving his first international call-up - then watching the game from the bench.

Davies, who is the club's top scorer with 11 goals, was brought into the Ireland Under-21 squad to face Germany but he could only watch on helplessly as his team drew 1-1.

"I was devastated not to get on. It's funny, my parents were away on holiday in Tenerife, as they did not expect me to be involved in a match. It's the first match of mine they've missed in years," Davies told the News and Mail.

"But I didn't get to play, so my emotions are pretty mixed. I got the call from Gary Waddock last Monday to say I'd been picked," Davies explained. "I couldn't believe it really.

"I've scored a few goals I guess this season but Aldershot's form has not been great recently, so it was a surprise."
