Fitness matters for Waddock

Aldershot Town boss Gary Waddock has warned his players to keep in shape over the summer.

The Shots' chief was content with his players' efforts this season, but expects life to be even tougher during their second year back in the Football League.

Waddock told the News & Mail: "I think they'll find that pre-season training will possibly be harder than anything they've ever experienced before.

"Not that I haven't been pleased with the fitness this season. But while in the Conference we found that our pace late in games could win matches, the other teams in League Two are up there with us.

"While I want the players to go away and enjoy a rest and not have to listen to my voice, they're professional footballers.

"We've taken their body fat content and their weight readings and we expect them to return in the same shape or better."
