Three graduate of Aldershot Town's successful youth academy have signed their first professional contracts. Centre-half Douglas Bergqvist, midfielder Henrik Breimyr and winger Adam Mekki have been awarded two-year contracts after forcing their way into Dean Holdsworth’s first team squad. 19 year-old Mekki has already made six first team appearances, including two starts, since February, and was named Man of the Match on his full debut at Cheltenham Town. Bergqvist, an 18 year-old born in Stockholm, has impressed in loan spells with Thatcham Town and Dorchester Town earlier this season, and won the Dorset Senior Cup with The Magpies. Breimyr, 17, has just received his first international call-up, to the Norwegian Under-18 squad for the forthcoming four-team Slovakia Cup tournament in May, which also features Croatia and Japan alongside the eponymous hosts. He was also runner-up in the 2011 “League Two Apprentice of the Year” award. Both Bergqvist and Breimyr were unused substitutes in The Shots’ matches over the Easter weekend against Burton Albion and Bradford City, and played large roles in Aldershot Town’s run to the third round of the 2011 FA Youth Cup. Manager Dean Holdsworth said: “I am delighted with these signings. All three players have shown great promise and they should be very proud on signing. Their attitude has been spot on and we can now look to really further their careers. “It is not often that there are as many youngsters knocking on the door for contracts as we have had at Aldershot Town, and that is encouraging. I am really pleased with the youth set-up here. It is an exciting time for the club and for the players too.”
