Shots slump shocks Holdsworth

Aldershot manager Dean Holdsworth was disappointed to see his side slump to a first defeat in six league matches after Port Vale conjured up a 2-1 win. John McCombe had opened the scoring before Marc Richards' winning strike, with Peter Vincenti notching a consolation goal for the Shots. Anthony Charles missed a 65th-minute penalty to get the home side back into it after Stuart Tomlinson fouled Danny Hylton in the box. Holdsworth said: "I am disappointed as for a large percentage of the game we never really got to the standards we have set previously. "Saying that, we huffed and puffed and we had the chances and a good enough number of attempts on goal to win the game, but I'm not going to brandish my stick at the players and start telling them off. "We defended poorly for the two goals, and that's where my disappointment comes from. We switched off for their second and you cannot allow teams to have a two-goal advantage over you at this level. "With the penalty, there is a question mark over whether their keeper should be on the pitch to make the save. But you have to go with what the referee believes is right."
