Shots shoot down Gulls

Luke Guttridge`s sixth goal of the season ended Aldershot's long wait for a win as Torquay were beaten 1-0. The former Southend midfielder struck the only goal of the game nine minutes after the break to earn Dean Holdsworth's men their first three points in 10 matches. Torquay's Danny Stevens created the first chance himself in the 10 minute when his jinking run down the left ended with a shot straight at Jamie Young. Shots striker Peter Vincenti then had a shot blocked by Kevin Nicholson before Guttridge looped a speculative shot from long range on to the bar. But the Shots had the lead after 54 minutes when Guttridge slammed in a volley from close range after good work from Vincenti. The Gulls threw on all three substitutes before the hour and one of them, Billy Kee, fired a snap shot wide soon afterwards. Anthony Straker then blazed over at the other end but Craig Stanley thought he had levelled 20 minutes from time when he beat Young only for Darren Jones to clear off the line.
