While making the League Two Play Off’s was the original plan during the first half of the season, Shots manager Dean Holdsworth has shifted his aim after a dire League campaign to date and has now been forced to focus his immediate aspirations on keeping League Two status as the clubs begins the final four months of the season.
With many tough encounters still ahead, speaking to the Aldershot News’ Jon Couch following Saturday’s 2-1 away victory against AFC Wimbledon Couch asked about the pressure that the manager has put himself under, and Holdsworth replied: “I’ll always put pressure on myself.
“I won’t stop because I want to achieve something.
“Achieving League status for this club – where we started this year off the pitch and on it, is a massive achievement.
“Lets not underestimate that we want a bit more – we’ve had a massive cup run, we’ve made the club money, we’ve sold players this year, but success is what our goals are and our goal is League status – it must be.
“We’re not competing with the top boys, we’re not. We want to, the fans want us to and we want us to, I want us to, but where we are we have to be clear on the realism of what we’ve got and believe me – we get League status this year, the club is moving forwards in the right way. Behind the scenes I haven’t got a say what’s going on, but we will be in a better position by the end of the year as long as we are in the League.”
