Match Reaction: Shots vs Port Vale

27 February 2011 11:57
We take a look at the post-match views following the 2-1 defeat against Port Vale. Shots boss Dean Holdsworth told BBC Radio Surrey that he was disappointed following the match saying: "We're disappointed but at the same time we created chances, and we know we didn't get to the heights we have done recently. "There's a question mark over whether their keeper should have been on the pitch to save that penalty. I never want to see a player sent off, but if the referee books him then I'm not sure why he's not sent off. "I need my players to be men and stand up and want the ball, and to put in good performances." Vale boss Jim Gannon was the happier man saying: "We had some really good chances, at least ten shots on goal and it would have been a travesty if we hadn't come away with three points." To hear both interviews in full, click here. Meanwhile, both sets of supporters had this to say: From the One Vale Fan forum “Good performance and a well deserved win bar a couple of shaky moments. I thought Haldane played as well as I've ever seen him play until he got injured, ran at the defence AND managed to put some good balls in! Luckily Taylor put in a similar performance when he came on. Morsy was very good, especially second half, Ex did ok bar getting caught in possession a couple of times.”I thought we showed great composure in the last 15 mins or so. Between the time of the penalty and 5 minutes after their goal they were on top. But I thought we killed the game really well and managed to keep it down their end for long periods of time.”I'd also give a rare positive mention to the referee. The penalty was definitely a penalty, but he did the right thing having a long chat with the linesman and ultimately only booking Tomo. It was a penalty, could have possibly prevented a goal scoring opportunity, but clearly wasn't deliberate. Lots of refs would have been too hasty to produce a red card in that situation, so fair play to him for giving it some thought!” – South West Valiant Shots fans had this to say on Shots Talk: “ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!” – Aris of the yard “Shot ourselves in the foot today, missing yet another penalty, god awful defending, failing to string a pass together for most of the game. Small, Harding and Grand were extremely poor today definitely need to make changes for Gillingham. I can't understand these players, why does it take us to go a goal or two down before we start trying to play.overall it was a game we deserved to lose, we let Port Vale have too many chances in the first 60 minutes, unlike Macclesfield they took a couple of them.” – Aldershot-jg “Only really need the one thread to say that the expectations that accompanied Dean Holdsworth have not been met. Results and performances have remained pretty much on a par with the Dullon era. The odd player comes out now and again to say that things are moving in the right direction and then the next match produces another shocker. Words, words, words. The people wanted their football back but, so far, it stubbornly refuses to show itself. Deano promised to put the smile back on the faces of the supporters but there remain a lot of concerned frowns.Things have to improve. The sense of frustration and, to a certain extent, apathy is once again descending like a mist over the Recreation Ground.” – Somerset Shot
