Jones: Promotion hopes are slim

Aldershot defender Darren Jones has conceded that the club's chance of promotion has all but faded. The Shots have been resurgent under Dean Holdsworth but are nine points behind the top six with just six games left ahead of the visit of third-placed Shrewsbury. Jones said: "We have felt strong in recent weeks but we probably needed to beat Southend last weekend to have a real chance of making the play-offs. "Stranger things have happened but players are playing for contracts at the moment. Everybody has to dig in to earn a contract so there is plenty to play for. "Shrewsbury will be a good game to look forward to. I think we thrive against the big teams. "We played them at their place and did really well and have nothing to fear. They will be wary coming to our place. They are pushing for promotion. We want to keep on the heels of the play-offs and it has the makings of an exciting match."
