Barnet 1-2 Aldershot: Report

01 January 2011 17:54
Small wins it for Shots Wade Small's strike clinched a 2-1 victory for Aldershot as Barnet plunge deeper into relegation trouble in npower League Two. Dan Harding received a gift from Bees striker Izale McLeod to fire the Shots ahead on 35 minutes and Small pounced from close range six minutes later. McLeod made amends for his earlier mistake on 54 minutes as Barnet rallied to set up a tense finish but Town clung on. The Shots showed no sign of rust despite not having played since December 11, with Marvin Morgan and Jermaine McGlashan both threatening the Bees' goal early on. Keeper Jake Cole was alert to deny Kevin Dillon's men on both occasions before McLeod miscontrolled from six yards when he should have put the hosts ahead. The 26-year-old paid the price for losing his composure when his sloppy pass deep in his own half was intercepted by Harding, who fired past Cole from 18 yards. And Small made matters worse for Mark Stimson's strugglers, hammering home the rebound after his initial header cannoned back off the Barnet crossbar. The hosts' were lifted after the interval when Ricky Holmes broke free on the left to place the ball on a plate for McLeod but they failed to force a late leveller.
