Herd sits out Torquay clash

Aldershot captain Ben Herd serves the final game of his three-match suspension as Torquay come to town.

The right-back missed last Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Northampton and the disappointing late 2-2 Boxing Day draw at home to Bristol Rovers following his red card against Rochdale.

But, after completing his ban against Torquay, he will be back in the fold for the trip to Barnet on New Year's Day.

Manager Dean Holdsworth, who welcomed back Peter Vincenti, Troy Brown and Anthony Tonkin against Rovers, is unlikely to have any new injury or suspension concerns to deal with for the Gulls test.

Olly Lancashire remains sidelined with his abdomen complaint, but fellow long-term absentee Craig Stanley is closing in on his return from a broken leg and is a couple of weeks off a comeback.

Torquay captain Lee Mansell is missing from his side's line-up.

The midfielder was replaced in the dying minutes of the 1-1 draw with Plymouth after suffering a gash to his knee.

Boss Martin Ling told the club's official website: "He has a hole in his knee that will need to be stitched. Saturday will be too early but there are no broken bones or internal damage."

It is another blow to Ling, who remains without Brian Saah as he completes his three-match ban following a straight red card against Bradford earlier this month.

Forward Ryan Jarvis is out for two months after suffering a fractured rib and a punctured lung in the draw with Northampton, while Ian Morris (Achilles) and Lloyd Macklin (broken metatarsal) remain sidelined.
