Aldershot 1-2 Port Vale: Match Report

26 February 2011 17:44
Richards inspires Vale victory Marc Richards notched his 15th of the season as Port Vale ended a nightmare week on a high with a 2-1 win at Aldershot. The Valiants arrived at the Rec with question marks over the future of boss Jim Gannon following a row with assistant Geoff Horsfield. But those worries were largely forgotten in the 26th minute when defender John McCombe bundled home from a corner. Simon Grand should have levelled on the stroke of half-time, but Stuart Tomlinson produced a remarkable acrobatic save. And the Shots were made to pay for that miss six minutes after the interval when an unmarked Richards headed home Robert Taylor's cross. Anthony Charles missed a 65th-minute penalty to get the home side back into it after Tomlinson fouled Danny Hylton in the box. They did reduce the arrears three minutes later when Aldershot frontman Peter Vincenti coolly slotted past Tomlinson, but they could not fashion an equaliser.
