Albion 2-0 Queens Park: Match Report

14 May 2011 18:59
Gemmell at the double for Albion John Gemmell bagged a brace as a 2-0 win earned Albion a place in the Second Division play-off final at the expense of Queens Park. Albion, who had finished second in the Third Division, almost led in the opening seconds but Ciaran Donnelly`s close-range effort from Steve Canning`s free-kick whistled past the post. Queens Park`s response came from Michael Daly but his right-foot shot from 18 yards was well wide, and then Gemmell should have done better with a header from Michael McGowan's cross. Gemmell spurned another headed chance at the start of the second half but made amends in the 67th minute when Robert Love played him in and the forward coolly converted. Love came agonisingly close to sealing Albion`s place in the final as his six-yard shot cannoned back off the crossbar after 73 minutes. And it was left to Gemmell to put the icing on the cake with a well-taken second into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to seal a 3-1 aggregate victory.
