Birse out of Arbroath survival bid

Grant Drummond and John Boyle will miss Airdrie's game against relegation-haunted Arbroath.

Both players have undergone knee surgery this season and will be absent for the Diamonds, who have been in fine form of late with eight wins and six draws from their last 15 matches.

Airdrie manager Gary Bollan is keen for his team to maintain that momentum.

He said: "I said when I came to the club that I wanted to create a winning mentality and the boys have responded well.

"I want to keep that approach going and I want this ground to be a place teams do not like coming to, so we have plenty to play for ourselves."

Arbroath must try to stay up without Connor Birse, who is struggling with a knee injury.

The Gayfield side need to better East Fife's result at Ayr to survive and player/manager Paul Sheerin insists his team are concentrating solely on what they need to do.

"Our performance levels in recent weeks have been good and that has allowed us to take our fight to the last day," said Sheerin. "We have simply got to try and win this game and then see what happens elsewhere.

"Training has been upbeat and we are looking forward to the challenge, although we recognise that Airdrie have done really well to get out of things. Hopefully we can join them."
