Squad To Be Thinned Out
It was stated when they came abck, and it was reiterated after the Stevenage Borough win.
When Eddie and Jason returned to Dean Court last October, it wa clearly stated that the playing squad was too big for League One, given that AFC Bournemouth have one of the largest squads in the third tier.
A number of players were shipped out in the January transfer window, and it would appear that a further cull can be expected in the Summer in the wake of David James departing earlier this week.
Speaking in the Bournemouth Evening Echo, manager Eddie Howe is quoted as saying: "David James has been excellent for us. He has been a model professional and I can’t speak highly enough of him. Unfortunately, we have had to make some difficult calls, not just on the goalkeeping front in terms of picking who we think is our best goalkeeper but also, financially, we are having to readjust and realign things at the club and this is part of that. When we came back, we said we had a big squad and that the wage bill is very high for this football club, so we need to adjust things and realign the playing side like it has been realigned off the pitch. The club has to be streamlined and it has to make sure it is manageable. We are in the process of doing that and may have to make some difficult decisions ahead, but it will all be for the benefit of the club".
