Rochdale's Hill: Keeping promotion players key to Cherries' success

ROCHDALE boss Keith Hill believes keeping the nucleus of their League Two promotion squad has been key to Cherries' impressive League One form. Cherries visit Spotland for the first time in the league's third tier tomorrow (3pm) after both sides were promoted alongside champions Notts County last term. Life higher up the Football League ladder, though, has not been an easy transition for Hill's men, with the Lancashire outfit only outside the bottom four on goal difference. Cherries, meanwhile, are flying high in fifth place eight points clear of Rochdale. Outspoken Hill, who last season claimed Eddie Howe had built a squad on money the club never had, told the Rochdale Observer: Bournemouth are a team who came up with us and recruited when they needed to in order to build, and to give them the chance to carry on being successful. Eddie's doing an excellent job and I've got a lot of respect for him. He has been helped by the fact that he has retained a lot of the players who got them promoted. It's necessary to have those financial resources at certain stages to carry on being successful. They may have lost Brett Pitman to Bristol City, but when you consider the quality of players they've still got there Lee Bradbury, Marc Pugh, Michael Symes, Rhoys Wiggins, Shwan Jalal it's no surprise that they're doing well. Previewing tomorrow's clash at Spotland, Hill added: It's going to be a stern test.
