League One Review - Jan 12th

Here's our review of the action around League One.

Tranmere Rovers continued their run at the top with a 2-0 win over Crawley Town, who could have jumped in to the play-off places should the Sussex side had won themselves. Goals from Amoo (30th min) and Bakayogo (39th min) sealed the win for the league leaders. Tranmere Rovers 1st, Crawley Town 9th.

Managerless Doncaster Rovers managed to clock up victory with a 2-1 win over Stevenage Borough at Broadhall Way as Hume (79th min) and Jones (94th min) sealed a 10th away win for Donny after Dunne gave Borough the lead in the 66th minute. Stevenage Borough 11th, Doncaster Rovers 2nd.

Brentford continued to press their nose up against the automation promotion places as they secured a 2-0 win over Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park. A Donaldson brace in the 5th and 82nd minutes proved to be enough to secure the win to keep the Bees leading the chase. Oldham Athletic 19th, Brentford 3rd.

Sheffield United appear to having a bit of a blip at the moment - their cause not helped with a 2-0 reverse at home against Yeovil Town, who themselves hauled themselves back in to the race for the play-off place. A brace from Madden in the 49th and 66th minutes secured the points for the Glovers. Sheffield United 4th, Yeovil Town 8th.

Game of the day came at Dean Court where AFC Bournemouth equalled a club record of 18 matches undefeated as they drew 1-1 against Swindon Town at Dean Court. An Arter strike in the 26th minute was cancelled out by Williams in the 85th minute for a share of the spoils. AFC Bournemouth 7th, Swindon Town 5th.

Franchise FC were thwarted by battling Bury at Stadium:Franchise even though Bowditch gave the home side the lead in the 15th minute. Schumacher levelled for the visitors in the 66th minute. Franchise FC 6th, Bury 22nd.

Crewe Alexandra remain on the edge of the play-off picture following a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Cook gave the home side the lead in the 26th minute while Moore levelled for the Alex 13 minutes later. Leyton Orient 14th, Crewe Alexandra 10th.

Shrewsbury Town and Hartlepool United produced the 4th 1-1 draw of the 10 matches played on Saturday as a Taylor strike in the 23rd minute was cancelled out by Wyke in the 55th minute. Shrewsbury Town 17th, Hartlepool United 24th.

Colchester United slipped to a 9th straight defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United at their Community Stadium. Goals from Ryan (41st min) and Hawley (46th min) got Sunny off the mark before Sears netted what proved to be a consolationjust before the hour mark. Colchester United 21st, Scunthorpe United 20th.

Two games are being played on Sunday following JPT action on Thursday as Carlisle United (18th) host Coventry City (12th) and Preston North End (16th) host Walsall (15th).

The match between Portsmouth (23rd) and Notts County (13th) fell victim to torrential rain on the south coast.
