League One Review - April 9th

Here's our round up of the League One action as the Seagulls close in on automatic promotion. Like we didn't already know, but Brighton & Hove Albion are to within a whisker of claiming a well deserved automatch promotion following victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Withdean. A Wood penalty (44th minute) and a strike from Bennett (74th minute) all but confirmed what has been widely expected for most of the season. Automatic promotion could be confirmed when the Seagulls visit Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday. Brighton & Hove Albion 1st, Sheffield Wednesday 16th. South Coast Club are closing in on the 2nd automatic spot following a 2-0 win over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road. Lambert gave the Saints the lead in the 26th minute, with Barnard doubling the advantage in the 88th minute. The result leaves the Saints above the Terriers with 2-games in hand on their nearest rivals. Leyton Orient 8th, South Coast Club 2nd. In a play-off 6-pointer, neither Huddersfield Town or Peterborough United did themselves too many favours by playing out a 1-1 draw at the Galpharm. McCann gave Posh the lead from the penalty spot in the 41st minute, only to see Hunt level for the Terriers in the 91st minute. Huddersfield Town 3rd, Peterborough United 4th. Franchise FC managed to see of Carlisle United at Stadium:Franchise with a 3-2 win to cement their place above the chasing pack. Powell gave the home side the lead in the 13th minute only to see the Cumbriand hit back through Noble (28th min) and a Berrett penalty (69th min). The Franchise holders managed to turn the game back in their favour with goals from Balanta (81st min) and Clayton (94th min). Franchise FC 5th, Carlisle United 14th. More frustration for AFC Bournemouth as their run without a win was extended to 7 matches with the visit of Tranmere Rovers to Dean Court. Goodison gave the visitors the lead in the 41st minute. Even though Ings levelled in the 91st minute, Cherries hearts were broken when McGurk scored the winner in the 94th minute. AFC Bournemouth 6th, Tranmere Rovers 18th. Rochdale couldn't take advantage of the Cherries slipping as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Colchester United's Community Stadium. Henderson scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute. Colchester United 10th, Rochdale 7th. Exeter City managed to get one over on their west country neighbours, Bristol Rovers at The Memorial Stadium to keep alive their slim hopes of a play-off place. A brace from Nardiello in the 78th and 92nd minutes saw the Grecians make off with the points back down the M5. Bristol Rovers 20th, Exeter City 9th. Swindon Town gave their chances of avoiding the drop a boost with a 1-0 away win over Brentford at Griffin Park. Andrew scored the only goal of the game in the 80th minute. Brentford 11th, Swindon Town 23rd. Hartlepool United kept Yeovil Town looking over their shoulders at the drop zone with a 3-1 win at the Victoria Ground, even though the Glovers took the lead in the 10th minute through Obkia. Boyd levelled in the 18th minute, with Collins and Larkin making the result safe with goals in the 62nd and 69th minute. Hartlepool United 13th, Yeovil Town 17th. Dagenham & Redbridge gave themselves a massive boost inn avoiding the drop with a crucial 3-1 win over Notts County at Victoria Road. Akinde (16th min), and a brace from Green (41st min and a penalty in the 6th minute of first half added time) gave the Daggers a 3-0 lead at the break. County could only hit back through Demba in the 69th minute, leaving the visitors in the drop zone. Dagenham & Redbridge 19th, Notts County 21st. Plymouth Argyle aren't going to go down without a fight it seems. They managed to drag Walsall back in to the mire with a 2-0 win at Home Park. Bolasie (51st min) and Patterson (88th min) did enough to secure the points. Plymouth Argyle 24th, Walsall 22nd. The only other game in League One saw Oldham Athletic (15th) draw 0-0 with Charlton Athletic (12th) at Boundary Park.
