Fletcher rescue keeps Cherries on target
Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury saluted veteran striker Steve Fletcher after the player-coach stepped off the substitutes' bench to keep his side on course for the play-offs.The Cherries had won onlt one of their nine previous league games and left it late to cling on to sixth place, with Mathieu Baudry's 84th-minute header cancelling out Wayne Brown's early opener for Rovers before Fletcher slammed home Danny Ings' cross from close range in the 88th minute.Bradbury said: "Fletch was brilliant when he came on, not just with his goal, but also by winning every header. He caused them many problems, so all credit to the big man because he changed the game."To come from behind and score twice in the last six minutes showed great character. We've been underdogs for so long now, but we were courageous and stood up to be counted when it mattered."After all the things we have been through in the last three years we've become a bunch of winners and there is great self-belief in the squad."I always felt that if we could get a goal back Bristol Rovers would wobble and so it proved. The club has come a long way in a short time, but we have reacted well to the pressure of recent weeks and now we're in a great position to reach the play-offs."
