Veteran former Southampton star Paul Telfer has asked to have his Bournemouth contract cancelled.
The 36-year-old joined the Cherries in the summer after spending the previous two seasons with Celtic and had made 24 appearances for Kevin Bond's side.
However, Telfer has been struggling with a foot injury for the last two months and has been told it requires surgery that will end his season.
Chairman Jeff Mostyn told the club's official website: "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Telfer for his amazing gesture of support for AFC Bournemouth by offering to cancel his contract as a result of his injury.
"Paul Telfer has proved himself to be the ultimate professional both on and off the field. Paul could have chosen to have his operation, which will result in him missing the remainder of the season, and received full pay.
"In order to help the club in its current financial position, he chose to cancel his contract and will receive no further pay. I can not think of a greater gesture of support at this moment in time for the football club."
