Cherries: Wiggins has point to prove

RHOYS Wiggins admits Cherries will have a point to prove when they attempt to set the record straight against south coast rivals Southampton. Cherries have been on the receiving end against Saints twice this season suffering twin 2-0 defeats at St Mary's in the League Cup and in League One. Wiggins and his team-mates have an ideal opportunity to gain revenge in this afternoon's eagerly awaited promotion showdown at Dean Court (3pm). He believes Cherries dipped below their usual standards against Southampton in October and is determined to send a message to the rest of the third tier this time round. Wiggins told the Echo: It will be an interesting game, especially as we are up there with them. It is vital not to lose and, hopefully, we can get the win on home turf. Everyone has been looking forward to it. For us to be above them and for them to be chasing us makes it even better. I know we had a good following when we went to Southampton and we didn't live up to expectations. I think some of us feel like we need to show not just the fans but Southampton and the rest of the league that we can stick it to them and get a good result. Wiggins will have a key role as he is set to lock horns with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Saints star who has reportedly attracted attention from a plethora of top-flight clubs this term. The left-back added: He will be a danger, as well as a few other players they have got, like Lambert, Lallana and Barnard. They are good up front and we are going to have to be on top of our game. We want to play against the best players and show what we are capable of.
