Cherries: Stech to stay for the moment

MAREK Stech looks set to remain at Dean Court until Cherries' goalkeeping crisis has finally eased. The 19-year-old West Ham stopper was last week drafted in as cover for injured pair Shwan Jalal and Dan Thomas. And the Czech under-19 international endured a baptisim of fire when he made his debut during Cherries' 5-0 defeat at Morecambe on Saturday. However, Stech emerged from the Christie Park mauling with a good deal of credit and was described by boss Eddie Howe as blameless for any of the goals. Stech, who initially joined Cherries on an emergency seven-day loan, has continued to train with Howe's squad this week. And with Jalal and Thomas still not fully fit, Cherries may seek to extend his stay should their two regular goalkeepers fail to recover. Stech told the Daily Echo: I know it didn't look good because of the scoreline, but it was a brilliant experience for me to play at Morecambe. I felt confident at the beginning of the game and we started well. My kicking and coming for crosses was fine, it was just the goals. They were all unbelievable and I probably didn't have a chance with any of them. Hopefully, if I get another chance, we can play better. The lads have been great and I have enjoyed the training. I'm just going to see what happens. I am happy to stay and would love to sign again if they need me. Howe was forced to draft in Weymouth goalkeeper Jon Stewart to make up the numbers for a training game at Canford on Tuesday. The Cherries boss said: It's been very difficult with the situation we're in. Suddenly, we lose two goalkeepers one after another and then we can only sign one for seven days due to the embargo. It's such an important position and you really need continuity. West Ham want Marek to have games so they were quite happy to send him to us for seven days. He has been training really well and is getting to know us and getting to know the lads a little bit better. If one of our goalkeepers is fit, we won't be able to re-sign him so we will have to wait and see how they are in the coming days.
